HISTORY :

The club was formed in 1878 as Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire RailwayFootball Club (Newton Heath LYR FC) by railway workers in Newton Heath. They play ina small field on North Road, near Manchester Piccadilly railway station for fifteen years,before moving to Bank Street in the nearby town of Clayton in 1893. Tim is a member of the Football League the previous year and began to sever its links with the railway station, to become an independent company, appoint a secretary and dispose of the last name "LYR" so be it Newton Heath FC.

But in 1902, the club neared bankruptcy, with debts of over £ 2500 and even their Bank Street ground was closed. Just before the club decided to disband, the club suddenly get an injection of funds from JH Davies, director of Manchester Breweries beer company.The story is the captain of the team, Harry Stafford, showing off his dog at a fundraiser for the club. Dogs manifold St. Bernard was estimated by Davies and he wanted to buy it.Stafford bid was rejected and instead he offered Davies to invest money in club footballas well as chairman Newton Heath FC.

The offer was accepted and safe Newton Heath from bankruptcy. After that a meetingwas held to rename the club to mark the beginning of the rise of the club. The name 'Manchester Central' and 'Manchester Celtic' sticking out to be a candidate for a newname before Louis Rocca, a young Italian immigrant, said: "Gentlemen, why do not we use the name of Manchester United?" Name that Rocca proposed and formallyapproved came into use on 26 April 1902. Davies's new chairman, also decided tochange the team colors from green to red and white gold as the colors of ManchesterUnited.
